Wood processing at OPA ERWIN
Working in the forest: tree selection, felling and logging

select tree
In consultation with the responsible forester and our forester, we specifically select individual oaks for felling.

felling oak after the moon
We beat every tree in winter just before the new moon. Individually and by hand.

Every piece of furniture knows its roots
We record the location coordinates of each tree. In this way, we create the greatest possible transparency about the origin of the wood in the piece of furniture.

Only on advertised routes
In order to protect the forest floor, the forest is only used on designated back roads.
The way to the piece of furniture: the processing of wood into furniture wood

Fresh from the forest
After felling, the wood is transported to the sawmill.

The planks are made in the sawmill
The raw moonwood planks are sawn from the logs at the sawmill.

Our noble wood for furniture: Every tree has a number
Each individual moonwood plank is given the number of the tree from which it comes.

Natural wood drying
The wood is stored in the open air for approx. 1-2 years in the storage area. In order for it to reach the wood moisture content required for furniture, it then goes into a drying plant.
Regional production of our furniture

Arrive at the lumberyard
After sawing, the wood goes to the storage area.

Removing the edge of the tree
After drying, the planks are trimmed by hand.

Wood processing: planing
Each individual plank is planed until it is flat and has reached the desired thickness.

Wood processing: sawing
Each board is given the desired length and width on the circular saw. Here we go into the individual characteristics of the wood, such as grain and knots.

A piece of furniture by OPA ERWIN knows where it comes from
Here the branding iron is equipped with the coordinates of the respective tree.
